Day 1711 December 2019 in Kenya ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Approaching camp now. Storm clouds on the horizon. This is rainy season, after all. We arrived at camp in the sunshine. Suddenly the skies darkened and it just bucketed down with thunder and lightning. According to Wikipedia, 30 people are killed each year in Kisii due to thunderstorms.

I’m not mad about the rain but OK about camping in it so long as it’s reasonably dry when pitching and taking down. However, this is not the case here. Also, we have an early start tomorrow at 6am with breakfast at 5:30am. I didn’t fancy taking my tent down at 5sm in the lashing rain so upgraded instead. I’d rather camp but the upgrade was very cheap.

Our campsite

Arrived around 4ish at the Itobo Resort campsite in glorious sunshine. As soon as the engine was turned off, it started lashing down. It seems to happen in late afternoons in the rainy season. I upgraded to a room, sharing with Scott.

Lazed around this afternoon and tried to rearrange my stuff so I could find it easier. I’ll probably have it sorted out by the end of the trip.

Had a delicious meal made by the cookteam, burgers, fried spuds, chilli, guacamole. All around an open fire. I popped off early as peopled out and needed to recharge my batteries.

Early night tonight as we’re up at 5sm tomorrow morning for breakfast at 5:30am and 6am departure for Masai Mara game reserve. We’ll be there in jeeps for 2 days. This will be one of the highlights of the trip.

Settled down for the evening now.
